Common Application이 새로운 공통 에세이 주제를 공개했습니다. 현재 시스템이 정착된지 불과 2년 만에 발표된 것이라 다소 놀라운 변화입니다. 다만 단 한 개의 에세이 주제만 변경되었습니다. 기존의 에세이 4번 "자신이 가장 만족스럽고 편하게 느끼는 장소"에 대한 설명이 "자신이 경험한 문제 해결에 대한 이야기"로 바뀌었습니다. 어느정도 예상이 가능했던 변화입니다. 기존 4번을 학생들이 가장 싫어했기에 가장 적게 선택한 문항이었던 까닭입니다. 아래에 새로운 에세이 주제를 소개합니다.
1. Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.
2. The lessons we take from failure can be fundamental to later success. Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
3. Reflect on a time when you challenged a belief or idea. What prompted you to act? Would you make the same decision again?
4. Describe a problem you’ve solved or a problem you’d like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma-anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.
5. Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.
